Christopher Mize
CHRISTOPHER MIZE — Christopher Mize is a self-taught artist who has been painting primarily in oils since childhood. He brings to his career as an artist, an education and background in business. With a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and an MBA from Augusta State University in Georgia, Mize developed analytical skills which he has used in composing his paintings. "All of those years in business, I never put down the brush. Although I was able to focus on my professional career in management, the painting never went away. It kept coming back to the forefront despite my attempts to do something else with my life."
Many artists today want to produce works conveying the violence and chaos of post modernism. Mize has chosen a different path and has focused on the creation of images of beauty and quiet moments involving the figure. Christopher Mize states, “So much of modern art is concerned with depictions of how turbulent and unsettling modern life and society are today. I believe as an artist it is my choice to focus on beauty and those moments in the human experience that are peaceful, reflective, and subtle.” Friends enjoying a glass of wine in a café, a musician taking a break, or figures lost in their own thoughts: these are subjects which Mize chooses to capture in oil paint as he builds timeless, soothing images.
Christopher Mize lives with his wife Marianne and their two children.
