Gockel
ALEXANDER GOCKEL — Alex Gockel was born in Ludinhausen, North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany. In 1973 he started his studies in the specialist field of design, with emphases on typography, graphic design and advertising at the Polytechnic in Munster and graduated in 1977.
In addition to his freelance activities as a designer and artists, Alexander Gockel lectured in typography and graphic design at the Munster Polytechnic. After his decision to dedicate all his time to art, he has produced a wide variety of artwork from unique types of etchings to serigraphy. In 1983 Gockel established the art publishing company Avant Art and since that time has taken part in important international exhibitions. With expressive use of rich, primary colors, Gockel has created an exceptional style that is undeniably unique. His fluid strokes on large white canvas backgrounds done in the manner of "action painting" have a tremendous universal appeal.
Alexander Gockel also does a lot in helping to develop artist qualities in others and since the conversion of a mill purchased in 1988, his town has become a centre for graphic printing and screen print etching. This also helped in expanding his own artistic scope. As a result of international recognition, distribution points were established in London and Connecticut in the early nineties. Today Alfred Gockel's art can be found all over the world.
