Rhoda Baer
RHODA BAER — Glass artist, Rhoda Baer has an aesthetic that crosses boundaries. For over 25 years she has taken photographs all over the world for corporate, editorial and advertising clients. Her elegant yet bold images have captured numerous awards, been widely exhibited, and included in many private collections.
Rhoda Baer brings the same bold style to her work with fused glass. For Rhoda, it is all in the looking. "For as far back as I can remember, I have loved things that are visual. A beautifully iced cake, a fine pencil drawing, a perfectly proportioned building, or a child swinging a hula-hoop. Perhaps what I like best about working with glass is the looking, the search for the perfect balance, form, or interaction."
Baer is inspired by the interplay of volume, mass, density and tone obtainable in fused glass. She is challenged by the way color and luminosity transforms this everyday material. Whether working on large pieces or small plates, her signature use of vibrant color, clean line and minimalist perspective is evident. Bullseye Glass, a leader in promoting glass artists worldwide, recently selected Rhoda¹s work for their E-Merge exhibition of rising talent in kiln-formed glass. Rhoda has also been selected as a Finalist in the 2008 NICHE Awards for the piece entitled "Chocolate Chip Platter". Winners will be announced at the Philadelphia Buyers Market of American Craft in February.
About the Plates and Platters
In a process that takes over two days, the glass tabletop pieces are: hand cut and assembled; fused at 1480 degrees; and fired a second time to form the final shape. Some pieces are also sandblasted and fired a third time.
As with all glass art, there will be slight variances in the colors and design. The plates and platters are safe for food and can be put in the dishwasher, although hand washing is recommended. Each piece is signed and dated, guaranteeing authenticity.
