![]() STEPHEN BERGSTROM - Born in 1968 in Seattle, Washington, in the lush atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest, Stephen Bergstrom became aware of his artistic abilities at age twelve. Initially, films were an avenue of learning: Stephen drew, sculpted characters and observed the effect of lighting and composition through directors, and the black and white films of the thirties, forties and fifties. His grandfather, a prolific painter, writer and engineer, instilled a curiosity, ethic and artistic expressiveness that bolstered Stephen's growing passion for art. Entering his first competition at sixteen, Bergstrom won "Best of Show" at the 1985 Washington Regional Art Show, resulting in the sale of the first of many paintings. This spurred him to combine his talents in sculpture, photography, painting and computer graphics, although painting is his primary focus. In 1988 Bergstrom graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle with a degree in Visual Communications/Graphics and Illustration, leading him to an 8-year career as an editorial illustrator for magazines and newspapers, storyboarding for TV commercials, and creative consulting for film directors. Stephen Bergstrom's method of representing nature, consideration of aesthetics, and range of brush strokes, with carefully balanced color harmonies and decorative effects, are triumphant. Bergstrom is attuned to the Impressionists: John Singer Sargent, Claude Monet for the balance between impressionism and expressionism, and Gustav Klimt's themes of color, aesthetic beauty and originality. The effect of Nature's abundance leads to Bergstrom's gift: a joyous use of color and light, balancing form between impression and diffused realism in his excitement to include the viewer in this experience. Collectors include corporations: United Chambers Insured Plans - Bellevue, Washington; The Paper Company - Seattle, Washington; P.F. Industries - Kirkland, Washington and private collectors worldwide. Works available: Hand-embellished limited editions on canvas
